BIOEKOLOGI DAN TINGKAH LAKU DUYUNG SEBAGAI DASAR REKOMENDASI WISATA PENGAMATAN DUYUNG YANG BERTANGGUNG JAWAB DI SAP SELAT PANTAR DAN LAUT SEKITARNYA
Study on dugong (Dugong dugon) bioecology and behavior in Kabola subdistrict, Alor regency, NTT is performed regarding increasing number of tourism activity. A survey is done on 30 October-2 November 2017 to identify behavior and dugong’s sound characteristic, as well as to study the interaction happens between dugong and humans. A number of behaviors were recorded, such as swimming, eating, resting, breathing, playing the propeller, camera and hydrophone underwater, socializing with sea turtle and fish, inflating it’s genital and rubbing its body and genital to the boat. There are several types of sound produced by dugong which are chirps, barks, and trills. The interaction between dugong and humans affects those unnatural behaviors. This study also provides recommendations of best practices of how dugong watching should be done responsibly.
